Have you ever been so jealous that just looking at someone makes your blood boil? Even if that someone is a child? This story is exactly about that and how far jealousy can drive people.
Edgar lost his wife a year ago. She had a disease, but fortunately, she didn’t have to suffer for too long. She passed away two months after she was diagnosed. Edgar wished he had more time with her, more time to sort things out, and that the goodbye would be longer. Emily was too young to fully grasp what was happening, but old enough to understand her mother was gone.
It took a while to get used to the new situation, but somehow they managed to get through it. They had their routines, their highs and lows, and everything started feeling normal again. Eventually, Edgar felt ready to meet someone new. A man of his age and status shouldn’t be alone for too long. At least that’s what his mother said.
Edgar wanted to make sure that he was serious with the new person before introducing her to Emily. When he met Clarissa, he felt that she might be someone worth introducing to Emily. When the day came, he was quite nervous and hoped for the best. Edgar was relieved when they hit it off so well!
Clarissa soon became a constant in Edgar and Emily’s life. Things couldn’t have gone better for him. That was until Emily began to act up. She became very moody. She yelled and screamed when she didn’t get her way, she would get so angry that she threw things at Edgar and Clarissa. This was very unusual behaviour. Emily was a kind and loving child. When Edgar asked her why she would get so angry, she said she didn’t know. She didn’t want to get angry, but she couldn’t control it. Edgar was alarmed and knew something was off.
He decided to ask his late wife’s sister for help who was a self-proclaimed witch. Upon arrival at the witch’s house, she knew immediately that something was not right with Emily. She knew her niece and her energy very well and she sensed something on her that was trying to cause problems. The witch examined Emily and found something dark in her stomach. She told Edgar that something she was eating wasn’t good for her and asked him what he was feeding her. Edgar replied that it was the usual food. The witch said that whatever dark thing was in her was related to food.
After Edgar told the witch about the change in Emily’s behaviour, the witch decided to provoke her, in the hope that she could make a connection to whoever put this dark curse on her. And as soon as Emily started to act up as usual, the witch saw what was going on. She asked Edgar who was cooking at home. Edgar felt a little uneasy but eventually told her about Clarissa. He felt bad about already having a new partner, but he felt even worse, when the witch told him that it was Clarissa who was poisoning Emily. He didn’t want to believe it, because Clarissa seemed to love Emily. But the witch didn’t have a reason to lie to him, after all, she was Emily’s aunt. When the witch looked deeper into the spell, she found a trace of jealousy. Clarissa was jealous about the bond between Edgar and Emily. She wanted that for herself. She wanted Edgar for herself.
The witch mixed a potion for Emily to drink that would remove the poisonous spell that was in her stomach. Emily returned to her kind self, and needless to say, Clarissa was no longer part of their lives.
