His end is not her end

The people who ask witches for help are quite often very self-centered. What might look like compassion at first turns out to be a very selfish request. This was the case with a middle-aged wealthy lady who asked the witch for help.

Her husband was not feeling quite well. He was not sick to the point where he couldn’t do anything, but the lady could feel that something was not right. Her husband didn’t see it as serious as she did and refused to go see a doctor. He said it would be a waste of time and money when he already knew it was nothing serious and that it will pass soon. The lady couldn’t help but worry. Without her husband knowing, she went to a witch to ask for advice or help. She wasn’t sure what exactly she was hoping for.

As usual, the witch asked a few questions to find out what it is that the lady wanted. What she really wanted. People who ask witches for help start off with the story they tell themselves so they don’t feel bad about themselves, but after a few questions their true motive comes out. Witches usually don’t care about good or bad or which side people are on. When they do witchcraft, they need to know the intention for things to work out the right way. Reputation is important for witches, and casting the wrong spell wouldn’t sit well with their egos.

This lady did worry about her husband, but not so much whether he died or not as much as she was worried about what would happen to her when he dies. At that time, women of her status did not work. Work was for men, nothing a woman would understand anyway.
If her husband dies, she wouldn’t be able to take over the business. And society deemed her too old to marry again. So yes, she wanted him to be healthy so she could continue living her life without worry.

Knowing how the realm of magic and deals works, the witch looked into his energy to see what he was dealing with. Some successful people get to where they are by receiving favors from someone on the other side. You might as well say they made a deal with the devil. And if you know the devil, you know he doesn’t play fair games.
The husband had made a deal that opened doors for him and led to his success. Now it was his turn to hold up his side of the deal. The husband was so eager to be successful that he would even sacrifice his well-being for it.

Seeing who he had made a deal with, the witch decided it was not worth it to interfere, not only because it would cause a bigger fight but also because she could see the husband’s greed. He had tasted success, and anything less than that wouldn’t be acceptable. He would search for another deal-maker to keep reaching for success, even if it costs him his life.

The witch advised the lady to take care of herself, now that she knew the end of his story. She should do whatever she needs to do to make sure she would be well without her husband and that her story continues.
