The Matrix is all about power, the more you have, the better you’re usually off. For some, it’s all about getting up the hierarchy. And just like inside the Matrix, the outside is also very male-dominated. And this shouldn’t surprise you: females are not well respected by males. They make it quite difficult for female entities to get to the top levels. Witches in particular are seen as lowly creatures, scum, only good for the dirty work. Compared to other entities, they are considered weak and their abilities are not as strong.
To gain more power, some covens bet on numbers and recruit as many individuals as they can. There are many different ways they do this, I’m going to tell the story of how I was recruited.
A lot of things you see in the Matrix mirror how density operates on the other side. Like the military or other groups that fight to kill, some covens focus on the misfits, the ones with no future, the ones with nothing and no one. They observe you for a while, they learn your situation and your weaknesses. Once they have enough information on you, they slowly start infiltrating your life and your mind. They make you feel seen, feel understood. They share your pain and sorrow. Then they slowly make you hate your life, hate your family, your home. They know a place where you would fit perfectly, it’s as if fate has brought you together. A place where you can be something new, something better. Something powerful. They see something special in you. Everyone will respect you. You can learn magic. You can have everything you desire. There is a bond so strong that no one can break it, you will never be or feel alone again. You start believing their lies, start accepting the dreamland they built for you. You leave everything and everyone behind and go with them, your new sisters.
There is a big celebration and a ritual to officially welcome the new members. You made it! You are happy, a bit nervous, but mostly excited to finally become a member of the coven and live in the dreamland you so desire. You have to swear loyalty and drink something that works like a spell. They tell you it’s meant to strengthen the new bond and open you up to receive the power of the witches. The drink helps it flow easier into you.
Once the party is over, reality hits soon after and things start to change. All the niceness is gone and you start seeing their real faces. The “bond” that you drank was really about controlling you. They put a spell on you in case you betray them or do something bad. It sits deep in your body and spreads, when they activate it, it hurts really badly from the inside. You can’t remove it and they will never do so. Even if the witch that put the spell on you dies, the spell will last, since it’s tied to the coven, not to the witch.
You are now like a slave to them, they make you work extra hard and do all the dirty work. They still want you to get stronger and be able to fight for them, you can even get higher up, but that takes a lot of work and they make it really hard for you to leave your position. Sometimes they even keep you from becoming stronger than them. If you are lucky, someone above them sees your abilities and strength and they will open up a way for you to move up. You surpass your bigger sister. There is a lot of fighting amongst each other. A lot of rivalry. When the coven fights against another group, the sisters compete against each other while fighting, especially in the middle ranks. The higher ups don’t fight so much against each other (unless the have to make big decisions), but they enjoy watching the chaos.
Even though they are so mean and they fight so much amongst each other, there are moments when the fighting stops. Mostly after a big hardship or a fight. When something big is over and we made it. There is no fight – just party and fun.
